While you’re planning a trip or a staycation, keep the reality-escaping theme going by picking up a novel! Here are three fictional Wall Street-centered stories to before you head to your favorite relaxation spot. Add one or more of these to you Kindle list or check out an audio book even!
The Bonfire of the Vanities by Tom Wolfe
Tom Wolfe is one of America’s greatest literary voices. The novel follows three main characters: bond trader and ‘Master of the Universe’ Sherman McCoy, assistant district attorney Larry Kramer, and ex-pat journalist Peter Fallow. After an accident in the Bronx, McCoy finds himself in the crosshairs of every one with agenda in 80s New York. The movie didn’t quite live up to book, so give the original a shot!
The Prince of Risk by Christopher Reich
The story follows Bobby Astor, a fearless hedge funder whose father, the chief executive of the New York Stock Exchange, is murdered alongside the Fed Chair on the South Lawn of the White House. Bobby’s search for the murderer uncovers a conspiracy that affects his current business deal and the entire financial system of the United States. A true page-turner!
The Gods of Greenwich by Norb Vonnegut
Even though it’s another story of a hedge funder dodging shady characters, the book moves at such a fast clip it’s easy to forgive the familiar setting. The story follows rising hedge-fund star Jimmy Cusack whose company collapses amidst the recession. As he tries to make back his fortune, he learns that nothing is what it seems! Another page-turner by a distant relative of legendary novelist Kurt Vonnegut.
